David Gauke has been moved from the DWP to the Ministry of Justice as part of Theresa May’s 2018 reshuffle.
Gauke, who was until 8 January secretary of state for work and pensions, will become secretary of state for justice and Lord Chancellor.
He replaces David Lidington, who became Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and minister for the Cabinet Office.
Gauke was appointed to the Department for Work and Pensions in June 2017 after the former minister, Damian Green, was made first secretary of state.
His reshuffle will mean the post will see its fifth minister since 2016, although, as of 6pm Monday evening, the identity of the new minister had yet yet to be announced.
May will continue the reshuffle throughout the evening and into 9 January. Junior ministerial roles, including that of pensions and financial inclusion minister, have not yet been confirmed.
