Retirement IQ director Billy Burrows is to release a retirement guide to help financial advisers, setting out key points along the retirement ‘journey’.
Published on 27 April, Retirement is a journey not an event – questions & answers, identifies four stages of retirement – before retirement, at retirement, during retirement and later retirement.
Sponsored by Prudential, it assesses a series of issues ranging from defined benefit transfers to choosing the best income stream, by answering important questions at those four stages of retirement.
Burrows said many advisers and their clients used to think of retirment in terms of an event rather than a journey but the introduction of pension freedoms changed everything. “Now it is about managing money and risk throughout retirement,” he argued.
“A good way to broaden the advice proposition towards more holistic planning is to think of retirement as a journey. This approach has many advantages – not least because it helps advisers and their clients plan for the future in a more intuitive and engaging way.”
He added: “This guide sets out some of the key points along this journey and provides answers to a number of important questions.”
Prudential director of specialist business support Vince Smith-Hughes added: “Advisers will benefit from having a simple, independent guide providing useful tips about the retirement advice process. It encourages more holistic advice throughout retirement.”
