The Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes (AMPS) has appointed Technical Connection head of pensions strategy Claire Trott as its first female chairman.

Rowanmoor’s Alan Finch will continue in the role of honorary secretary, while Aviva’s Tasneem Ul-Haq and Hartsfield Trustee Services’ Joy West will act as honorary treasurer and membership secretary respectively.

Trott (pictured) said: “You cannot deny that the pension sector and in particular self-invested personal pensions [SIPPs] and small self-administered schemes [SSASs] have been in the spotlight.

“There is continued regulatory change and focus and it is important that, as the industry body for SIPP and SSAS firms, we have a clear focus on what our members need and what they are concerned about.”

Key challenge

Trott said AMPS had to unite the industry and engage with relevant regulators, adding: “A key challenge and focus for me as chairman is to work with the committee to revamp the communication with our members, ensuring they are fully up-to-date with what the committee are doing, key issues they should be aware of and any ongoing dialogue we are having with the regulators.”

Speaking at an AMPS conference earlier this year, TLT litigation specialist and partner Paul Gair warned delegates the claims management industry was “visibly trawling for prospective clients” in the self-invested market.
