Pensions dashboard could be used by 15 million people – Origo

The upcoming Pensions Dashboard could be used by up to 15 million customers, Origo has calculated.

As a result, the not-for-profit operation said the Dashboard must be built from the outset to support “significant volumes” of customers to cope with expected high demand.

Pension and financial inclusion minister Guy Opperman has committed to launching the pensions dashboard by the end of 2019, a deadline Origo said it supports and believes is realistic.

Managing director Anthony Rafferty (pictured) said it is “imperative” that the industry is able to deliver and maintain all the underlying services and data in a way that is secure, robust, and scalable to handle 15 million customers.

“Through our role as the industry’s not-for-profit fintech, we have also been advising on the impact of this large consumer base on pension provider systems,” he said. “The demands on some provider systems, as requests from 15 million consumers come in and information goes out, will need to be managed effectively – all while still providing a secure and efficient online service.”

In October it was revealed financial advisers would not have initial access to the dashboard but would play a role in the “future vision” of the project.

At the time, this was described as “an unnecessary and unwelcome constriction on encouraging more saving”.
